Avril Lavigne released a haunting new music video for the track "Let Me Go," featuring husband and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.
"Let Me Go," the third single off of Lavigne's self-titled fifth studio album due in stores on Nov. 5, was serviced to radio and iTunes on Oct. 15 to accompany the premiere of the song's official music video. It is preceded by the tracks "Rock N Roll" and the top 20 hit "Here's To Never Growing Up."
In the video, Lavigne roams the halls of an abandoned mansion, where she plays the piano and rests on a regal couch, with Kroeger's appearance being channeled through an elderly yardman, only to be seen as his true self through mirrored and tablet-assisted images. The two appear together during the song's final chorus.
"Let Me Go" is a piano-driven power ballad, which features Lavigne painfully reminiscing over a failed love, with lyrics such as, "I'm breaking free from these memories / Gotta let it go, just let it go / I've said goodbye / Set it all on fire / Gotta let it go, just let it go."
Kroeger is featured in the song's second verse, where he sings, "You came back to find I was gone / And that place is empty, like the hole that was left in me."
The song is reminiscent of many of Lavigne's biggest power ballad hits, including "Losing Grip," "Nobody's Home" and "Keep Holding On."
