Rapper Snoop Dogg has once again changed him name to channel the work of his new music -- this time referring to himself as "Snoopzilla."
According to Rolling Stone, Snoop will now refer to himself as "Snoopzilla" to coincide with his upcoming release "7 Days of Funk," a new collaborative project with singer Dam-Funk. The new funk influence that inspired the name change is something the rapper has always had in him, he says.
"We're the babies of the Mothership," Snoopzilla said to Rolling Stone. "I've had funk influences in my music my whole career. Dam-Funk is cold. He's keeping the funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him."
This is the second time Snoopzilla and Dam-Funk have teamed up for a collaboration, first coming together for a performance at the South By Southwest (SXSW) film and music festival. The duo released the single, "Faded Away," to iTunes on Oct. 15 and are scheduled to release their "7 Days of Funk" album on Dec. 10.
Snoopzilla last changed his name in 2012 to "Snoop Lion" to coincide with his reggae-inspired album "Reincarnated." At the time, he told reporters he felt connected with Bob Marley's spirit and was "Bob Marley reincarnated."
"I feel like I've always been Rastafarian," Snoop said, according to The Associated Press, which noted that the change to Lion is "likely a reference to the Lion of Judah, a religious symbol popular in Rastafarian and Ethiopian culture."
