Police attempted to stop Christian Castaneda in the area of Harvard Boulevard and Palm Avenue around 11:23 p.m. That's when police say Castaneda fled from the officer on foot.
The suspect discarded a loaded handgun as he ran through a parking lot towards Santa Ana Street before turning himself in.
The handgun was later recovered.
Castaneda was booked on multiple firearms violations, attempting to conceal or destroy evidence and active participation in a criminal street gang at Ventura County Main Jail.
