Highland Park shooting suspects holed up for hours

HIGHLAND PARK, LOS ANGELES

The incident began around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Police say two patrol units in the area confronted two known gang members, who opened fire on the officers. No officers were hit, and police say they never fired their weapons.

Police chased the suspects into an apartment complex near Avenue 57 and Monte Vista Street, leading to a barricade situation. Police blocked off the area, evacuated some residents and brought in the SWAT Team.

The two suspects finally surrendered around 1 a.m. Residents were back in their homes by 6 a.m. Police were believed to be executing a search warrant for more evidence.
