Man charged, allegedly solicited sex from a minor in Long Beach

A man has been charged with child annoyance after he allegedly solicited sex from a minor in Long Beach.

Charges against Shamalar Fields, 36, of Los Angeles, were filed Wednesday. Police say the incident happened near Atlantic Avenue and 68th Street as the victim was walking at about 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 28.

The victim told police that Fields drove up and solicited them for a sex act. A witness called for help at the victim's request, and Fields was arrested nearby, police said.

Fields has been charged with one misdemeanor count of annoying a child. Police say he has been released from custody on bond and is awaiting his next court appearance. Fields is a public safety officer in Exposition Park, according to police.
