The crash happened shortly after 3 p.m. on Verdugo Road between Monterey Road and Glenoaks Boulevard.
Glendale police say the 13-year-old boy ran across the road to get a ball when he was hit by the car. The driver stopped and was later arrested.
Officers say the teen suffered a broken pelvis, internal injuries and lacerations.
The driver's name has not been released.
