Officials say 68-year-old Ying Wah Tan Jer and her grandson, 18-month-old Bryant K. Tan, left their home in the 4400 block of La Madera Avenue in El Monte around 7 a.m. Sunday for a routine walk. The woman usually places the young boy in a child-carrier, walks up and down La Madera Avenue, and then returns home.
When the woman and child didn't return home, the boy's parents drove around the neighborhood looking for both of them. However, neither was located. The parents then called police.
Authorities say the woman was able to get help from residents who spoke Chinese at about 8:30 p.m. They drove her to the Pasadena police station, and officers called the family.
The infant's aunt drove in from Las Vegas when she heard about the disappearance and was there for the reunion. Relatives described the pair as "tired, hungry, but happy."
