Malibu rockslide causes traffic mess; lanes back open

MALIBU, Calif.

The slide was reported shortly before 7 a.m. Heavy debris blocked all southbound lanes of Malibu Canyon Road just before the tunnel between Piuma Road and Pacific Coast Highway. Shortly after the southbound lanes were cut off, the California Highway Patrol closed down the northbound lanes as well, at around 8:30 a.m.

All lanes were reopened shortly before 9 a.m.

Traffic was diverted at Mulholland Boulevard, and commuters were advised to take Topanga Canyon Boulevard as an alternate.
