Mariah Carey treated fans to a personal new song, titled "The Art of Letting Go," on Facebook on Nov. 11. The full track can be heard below.
Carey, who was treated at a Los Angeles hospital during the summer for injuries endured on the set of the remix music video for the song "#Beautiful," premiered "The Art of Letting Go" on her official Facebook page, calling it a personal record.
"For the first time ever, here it is, 'The Art of Letting Go'!!!," Carey wrote on her official Facebook page. "This is such a personal record to me. I wrote the lyrics so that anyone and everyone could relate to them and hopefully release anything that they need to let go that's holding them back or bringing them down. Thank you for sharing this experience with me!"
The song, a mellow power ballad, is true-to-form for Carey, and is reminiscent of some of her biggest power ballad hits, including "Hero," "One Sweet Day" and "We Belong Together."
Lyrics from the song include, "Letting go ain't easy / Oh, it's just exceedingly hurtful / 'Cause somebody you used to know is flinging your world around / And they watch as you're falling down."
Carey, who served as a judge on the FOX singing competition series "American Idol" during its 2013 season, left the series after its May season finale to focus on her album, also titled "The Art of Letting Go," and a world tour.
