Caretaker accused of stealing thousands of dollars in jewelry from homes

A caretaker was arrested for allegedly stealing over $8,000 in jewelry from an elderly couple in Thousand Oaks Tuesday. Investigators also linked Maria Sanchez, 40, of Northridge to a second theft which is believed to be in excess of $20,000.

Sanchez targeted elderly victims who had hired her as a caretaker. In both cases, the 40-year-old sold the property to a pawnshop in the San Fernando Valley.

Sanchez was booked into the Ventura County Jail on several felony counts of theft.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
