A giant turtle named Spike is making a name for itself in Louisville, Kentucky. The reptile isn't just an unusual pet, it also serves as therapy.

His owner, William Duncan, is a recovering alcoholic and says taking care of Spike gives him hope and helps him take better care of himself.

Spike has lived with William for the past six years and can be seen walking around his office and around town.

"Everybody likes Spike and Spike likes everybody," says Duncan. "And if somebody is afraid of him, they usually get over it pretty quickly."

Duncan says people have even offered to purchase Spike. He, however, says that his reptile bud is not for sale.

The two friends walk twice a week for at least 10 blocks, which for a turtle takes a while.

Spike is 11 years old but could live into his 80s.
