One of America's favorite holiday movies may be getting a sequel -- almost 70 years later.
Producers are working on a film titled "It's a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story," which will focus on the unlikeable grandson of George Bailey. That latter character is the protagonist in Frank Capra's Oscar-nominated 1946 classic "It's A Wonderful Life," Variety reported on Monday, Nov. 18. The sequel is set for release during the 2015 holiday season, the trade news outlet said.
Karolyn Grimes, who played Bailey's daughter Zuzu, will return for the new film, whose plot is similar to that of the original, with a twist -- she will play an angel who shows Bailey's grandson how much better the world would have been had he never been born, Variety says. Grimes was 6 when "It's A Wonderful Life" was first released and is 73 years old today.
It is unclear who will play the main character in the new movie and if more original cast members will star in it. Variety says Jimmy Hawkins and Carol Coombs, who played Bailey's son and daughter Tommy and Janie, are currently in talks.
