Diane Disney Miller, the eldest and last surviving child of the late Walt Disney, has died at age 79.

The news was announced on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Miller, a philanthropist, is survived by husband and former Disney CEO Ron Miller and their seven children, 13 grandchildren and great-grandchild. Her adopted sister, Sharon Mae Disney, died in 1993.

"It is with deep sadness that The Walt Disney Family Museum must share that Diane Disney Miller has passed away," read a statement released by the museum, which opened in 2009 as a tribute to her family's legacy. "Diane died of complications from a fall."

Walt Disney Company President and CEO Bob Iger added in a separate statement: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Diane Disney Miller and our thoughts are with her family during his difficult time. As the beloved daughter of Walt Disney and one of his inspirations for creating Disneyland, she holds a special place in the history of The Walt Disney Company and in the hearts of fans everywhere."

"She will be remembered for her grace and generosity and tireless work to preserve her father's legacy, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her," he added.

Walt Disney Family MuseumThe Walt Disney Family Museum said that in her final years, Miller served as president of the Board of Directors of the Walt Disney Family Foundation, the nonprofit organization that owns and operates the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco, and had also undertaken "an active advocacy to document the life and accomplishments of her father."
