Joseph Gatto shooting: Possible suspect sketch released

SILVER LAKE, LOS ANGELES

Joseph Gatto, 78, was shot at his home on the 2800 block of Bright Lane in Silver Lake on Nov. 13. Gatto's daughter found her father's body slumped over his desk.

Investigators believe an attempted assault with a deadly weapon that happened on Nov. 12 may be related to Gatto's murder. The earlier incident happened in the 2300 block of Moreno Drive, just blocks from Gatto's home.

A witness saw a suspect breaking into a car. When she confronted the suspect, he pulled a gun on her and threatened to kill her. The suspect ran away down some public stairs on Tesla Avenue.

Detectives are asking for the public's help. On Tuesday, they passed out flyers and canvassed the neighborhood.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 20s. He carried a tan backpack and was wearing a multi-colored, hooded sweater and tan pants.

Assemblyman Mike Gatto and his family say they have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support they have received since the death of their father. Gatto said his father's funeral is scheduled for Monday.

Anyone who recognizes the person in the sketch was asked to called detectives at (800) LAPD-24-7.
