"Piano Man" Billy Joel, pianist Herbie Hancock, actress Shirley MacLaine, opera singer Martina Arroyo and legendary rock guitarist Carlos Santana were honored at the 2013 Kennedy Center Honors gala this weekend.
The ceremony took place at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. on Sunday and was attended by President Barack Obama and wife Michelle Obama.
The five were honored for lifetime achievement in the performing arts at the ceremony. Joel, Santana and Hancock are also Grammy winners, while MacLaine has won an Oscar for the 1983 film "Terms of Endearment," an Emmy for the 1976 TV special "Gypsy in My Soul," as well as four Golden Globe Awards
Last year's Kennedy Center honorees included Led Zeppelin, Dave Letterman and Dustin Hoffman.
