Ellen DeGeneres took some time on her talk show in an episode that aired on Wednesday, Dec. 11, to have some fun with a recent tabloid cover that claimed she and wife Portia de Rossi were having trouble in their marriage. Video from the monologue can be seen below.
"You know, I don't usually pay attention to tabloids and gossip magazines. Unless I'm standing in a long line at the grocery store and then I devour them like pudding," DeGeneres joked. "No, I'm kidding. I don't go to the grocery store."
DeGeneres then said she noticed a tabloid magazine because it featured a photo of herself and de Rossi in the top right hand corner.
"And I thought, 'Oh that's sweet. They're honoring us," she said. "Then I read the headline underneath and it "Ellen and Portia Marriage Crumbles.' And I was like, 'Oh! What happened? They seemed so happy!' And then I was like, 'Oh wait! I'm Ellen and then I should know if that's happening.'"
DeGeneres, 55, and de Rossi, 40, wed in August 2008. The talk show host then said she debated whether or not she should open the magazine, but she figured she should see the story. As luck would have it, the page featuring the story about her marriage was torn out.
"I will never know what is tearing my marriage apart," she joked.
She later said, "It's so ridiculous to me. There's not one ounce of truth to any of it. I'm very happily married. In fact, the only thing we ever argue about is who loves who more. That is all. It really is true."
