Arleta deadly road rage suspect identified

ARLETA, LOS ANGELES

The incident happened in Arleta and resulted in the death of 22-year-old Richard Ruiz of North Hollywood.

Police say Alberto Gutierrez Jr. was driving a gray Dodge Challenger on the 5 Freeway July 13. Investigators say he opened fire on a red Kia. Ruiz died after being struck in the neck.

Authorities say Ruiz and his friends were on their way to play basketball that afternoon when he was killed.

One of Gutierrez's co-workers said he noticed Gutierrez acting aloof in the days following the shooting and started to change his appearance.

The co-worker's tip reached police a few days after the shooting. When detectives visited the business, Gutierrez walked off his job and never returned.

Gutierrez has been on the run since August. He is currently on probation for carrying a loaded gun and has missed appointments with his probation officer.

A warrant has been issued for Gutierrez's arrest. He is described as Hispanic, in his early-20s with green eyes.

Authorities say Gutierrez is a member of a local San Fernando Valley street gang with the moniker, "Green Eyes."

If you have any information about Gutierrez's whereabouts, you're urged to contact Detective Ryan Verna with the Mission Homicide Unit at (818) 838-9976 or Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
