Authorities say the single-vehicle accident happened in the area of Ellis Avenue and Beach Boulevard at about 5:20 a.m. A 2007 Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Ellis Avenue when it lost control for unknown reasons.
The force of the impact caused the Civic to split into at least two pieces.
Both occupants of the Civic, a man and a woman, were declared dead at the scene. Their names have not been released.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but officers say speed appears to be a factor.
