6. "American Horror Story: Coven" -- FX's daring and provocative horror anthology miniseries keeps fans covering their eyes and on the edge of their seats week after week. The show features an all-star lineup of actresses in its witch-driven third season, including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Gabourey Sidibe, Taissa Farmiga and Emma Roberts.
Why we love it: Lange, Bassett and Bates -- enough said. These three powerhouse actresses portray three of the most twisted and ruthless characters on television this year, as three of the most powerful witches in New Orleans. Lange, who has held an integral role since the miniseries premiered in 2011, continues to reign supreme as the show's driving force of drama and, at times, vulnerability and heart.
Bassett and Bates joined the show this season as witches who have had more than 200 years of rivalry, dating back to times of slavery and racial intolerance. The show has always explored numerous social taboos and topics, with this season focusing heavily on the topics of racism and social acceptance of people's differences.
"American Horror Story: Coven" and its fierce group of actresses managed to scare up more viewers than ever for the show when it premiered on Oct. 9, taking in more than 5.54 million viewers for the season premiere.
Spoiler alert! Season 3 finds witches Fiona Goode (Lange) and Cordelia Foxx (Paulson) running a coven to train and house a new generation of witches, in order to find the next "supreme" witch to rule the coven. Lange's character Fiona, however, has motives of her own in order to maintain her "supreme" status, taking down anyone who stands in her way.
The miniseries will conclude its witching storyline on Jan. 29, 2014.
