Mom allegedly left child with transients to party on New Year's Eve

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.

Authorities say deputies responded to the 24800 block of 5th Street at 2:19 a.m. Wednesday. Summer Collras, 36, reported that she came home and found that her child was missing.

During the investigation, it was determined that Collras had left her child with two transients "whom she associates with," authorities said, so that she could go out on New Year's Eve. The child was last seen around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

When Collras returned home, the transients and the child were nowhere to be found.

After a 14-hour search, deputies found the child as he was walking home on 5th Street. The boy told investigators that he had stayed the night at a friend's house.

It was unclear how the child got to his friend's house. Deputies said Collras provided little to no supervision over her son.

Collras was taken into custody without further incident. The boy has been placed in the care of the Department of Children's Services.
