Police responded to a report of an intoxicated person near businesses in the area of Winchester and Ynez roads around 6 p.m. Friday. Police said upon arrival, an officer found the 33-year-old Murrieta man loitering. The officer made verbal contact with the man before he fled, police said.
The man ran across eastbound lanes of Winchester Road. He then attempted to cross westbound lanes when he was hit by a vehicle.
The man had major injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where is receiving treatment, police said. He will not be charged.
The driver of the car that hit the man was interviewed and released.
