Warning: Spoilers ahead! Viewers of last night's "Castle" episode saw the daring rescue of Detective Kevin Ryan (played by Seamus Dever) from a burning building just in time to greet his newborn baby girl and wife Jenny (Seamus' real-life wife, Juliana Dever).
While the episode was emotional and intense, it wasn't exactly the tone the Devers, who talked to OTRC.com correspondent JJ Snyder in December, thought the episode would have.
"In our heads somehow, or maybe in my head, but I say our head it's like I'm thinking for you," Juliana said to Seamus. "I was like oh it's going to be funny. Oh how do we get to the taxi."
"Oh we're late! We can't find a cab in midtown," Seamus added.
Juliana said, "Some comedy and then we get the script and..."
"It's the opposite," Seamus replied.
"Kevin's dying and I'm giving birth in an ambulance in the middle of the night," Juliana said.
Juliana also explained to Snyder how she researched what going into labor was like and co-star Susan Sullivan, who plays Rick Castle's mother on the show, gave her a little story from her days on "Falcon Crest."
"I've never had a child, so I didn't really have anything personal to draw on," Juliana said. "It was crazy, like I kind of always had said, 'Oh please don't make me give birth on TV.' Like, I kind of didn't want to do that."
Seamus asked Juliana, "Didn't you have a moment with Susan Sullivan?"
The actor later added, "Susan Sullivan said, like [he imitates Sullivan's voice], 'Darling, when I was on 'Falcon Crest' I gave birth on the floor of a casino.'"
Juliana chimed in, "It was something like [she imitates Sullivan's voice], 'Or on a bear skin rug.' It was something like very Susan and very Martha."
The actress also had one of her close friends walk her through the labor process.
"I didn't think contractions were your entire body," she said. "After that I watched some YouTube videos of women giving birth."
The Devers also shared stories of how they met, how Seamus popped the question and how they had a hand in decorating their characters' apartment on "Castle."
"Castle" airs Mondays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
