Sriracha getting courted to relocate to Texas

A Texas rep is trying to lure the makers of Sriracha to the Lone Star State amid controversy over the SoCal plant.

A Texas representative is trying to lure the makers of Sriracha to the Lone Star State amid the controversy over the Southland plant.

Texas has been actively trying to attract various businesses to the state, and Huy Fong Foods is the latest. One Texas lawmaker seems to be attempting to capitalize on the recent legal battles the Sriracha plant has faced with its Irwindale neighbors.

Texas Representative Jason Villalba is apparently a Sriracha fan. He sent a letter to Huy Fong Foods CEO David Tran, introducing himself as a public official and corporate attorney for small business.

Villalba wrote that he is "extremely troubled by excessive government interference in the operations of private, job-creating businesses like Huy Fong Foods. you have worked too hard and have helped too many people to let government bureaucrats shut down your thriving business."

The lawmaker is referring to the partial shutdown a judge ordered of the Sriracha factory in Irwindale, which happened late last year after residents complained the fumes from the peppers made their eyes burn.

The Texas representative also took to Twitter. "Fight the good fight Sriracha brother. We are with you! #BringSrirachaToTexas," he posted.

In his letter to Huy Fong Foods, the Texas Republican noted that there is no personal or corporate state income tax along with a "plentiful non-union labor pool" in Texas.

Huy Fong Foods has yet to respond.
