Gabrielle Union offers several dating dos and don'ts in the February 2014 issue of Glamour magazine, where she says that her fiance, basketball player Dwayne Wade, had a "resume" that looked like crap before he met her.

In the interview, Union, who became engaged to Wade in December 2013, talks about different rules she has in order to have a successful and lasting relationship. When discussing "types," Union said simply forgetting her "type" worked in her favor.

"When I met Dwyane, his 'resume' looked like crap: athlete, going through a divorce, nine years younger than me," Union said. "None of that screamed, 'Let's have a lasting relationship."

"Then, after I had a heart-crushing breakup with yet another immature jerk, I thought, it can't be any worse if I date a fetus. Let's just see what happens," she continued. "Turned out he'd been on his own since he was 15. He had wisdom that comes with facing an insane amount of adversity. He's sweet, funny, honest about his shortcomings. When I put my preconceived notions to the side, I found someone cool."

Union and Wade began dating in 2009. Following the news of Wade's proposal, it was revealed he had fathered a child with another woman while he and Union were briefly separated earlier in 2013. Union made no immediate comment about the news.

"In our time apart, in our break, in our pain and our hurt, a blessing came out of it in my life, having a son who was born healthy," Wade said about the birth of his newborn child. "I got a chance to see him," Wade continued. "I'm involved in my kids' lives, you know. When my kids lived at home with me, when they weren't living at home with me, I tried to do everything I could to see them."

Union is currently starring on the BET original drama series "Being Mary Jane," airing Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET (check local listings).
