The officer was taken to an area hospital with a broken leg or hip in stable condition. He was expected to be released from the hospital sometime Saturday.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Raymer Street and Sepulveda Boulevard. Police say the officer was out on routine patrol when he was struck.
The driver of the car did stop and he was not cited. Police say it is being handled as an accident.
The injured officer is a 15-year veteran of the force.
