18-year-old shot while tagging in Pomona alley; 2 suspects sought

POMONA, Calif.

Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 900 block of Holt Avenue around 2 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Los Angeles County Fire Department officials responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of kin.

Police say the victim and another man were spray painting several buildings in the area when the victim was confronted by two suspects. One of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot the victim multiple times.

Investigators say the shooting appears to be gang-related. The incident marks the first homicide in the city of Pomona this year.

A Pomona police report recently found that overall crime is down, but the city's homicide rate has risen nearly 71 percent in a year. Officials said there were 29 homicides in Pomona in 2013, up 17 from the previous year.

Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call the Pomona Police Department's Detective Bureau at (909) 620-2085.
