OTRC: Golden Globes: Cate Blanchett of 'Blue Jasmine' wins Best Actress

Cate Blanchett has won the 2014 Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for her role in "Blue Jasmine," marking her third win and eighth overall nomination.

The winners were announced at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California on Jan. 12. Blanchett beat out Sandra Bullock of "Gravity," Judi Dench of "Philomena," Emma Thompson of "Saving Mr. Banks" and Kate Winslet of "Labor Day" for the award.

"Blue Jasmine" is a dramatic comedy set in San Francisco, California and is directed by famed director Woody Allen. Blanchett portrays Jasmine, a posh woman whose lavish life in New York City falls apart after her husband is sent to prison for fraud. She takes up with her less fortunate sister, Ginger (played by Sally Hawkins), in San Francisco. The film also stars Alec Baldwin, Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K. and Andrew Dice Clay.

This is the eighth nomination overall for Blanchett, having been nominated five times previously in the category as well as three times in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role category. She won in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama in 1999 for the film "Elizabeth" and in the Supporting Actress category in 2008 for "I'm Not There."
