OTRC: Golden Globes: Matthew McConaughey wins for 'Dallas Buyers Club'

Matthew McConaughey has won the 2014 Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama for his role in the movie "Dallas Buyers Club," marking his first win and nomination.

The winners were announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Jan. 12. McConaughey beat nominees Chiwetel Ejiofor of "12 Years A Slave," Idris Elba of "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom," Tom Hanks of "Captain Phillips" and Robert Redford of "All is Lost."

"All right, all right, all right," McConaughey said in his acceptance speech, quoting his character's famous line from the 1993 comedy movie "Dazed and Confused."

In "Dallas Buyers Club," McConaughey plays an HIV-positive patient named Ron Woodroof who smuggles anti-viral medications from around the world that are not approved in the U.S. in order to survive. Jared Leto plays Rayon, a transgender AIDS patient. Both Leto and McConaughey lost a significant amount of weight for their roles.

This marks the first Golden Globe nomination McConaughey, who lost 50 pounds for 'Dallas Buyers Club.' (Check out his interview with OTRC.com - he reveals how people reacted to his emaciated look.)

The actor is also known for past roles in movies such as "Magic Mike" and "A Time To Kill."
