Kanye West is a suspect in a misdemeanor battery case in Beverly Hills, California, where a man verbally attacked his fiancee, Kim Kardashian, a report says.
ABC News quoted an unnamed source as saying that Kardashian was on her way to a meeting in Beverly Hills and was followed by paparazzi -- a normal everyday occurrence for the E! reality TV actress. A young man tried to help her to get inside a building and called the photographers racial and anti-gay slurs, after which she told him his words were "inappropriate," the news network reported.
The man then turned on Kardashian, insulting her and West and hurling obscentities, ABC News said, quoting the gossip site TMZ as saying that the hip hop star then punched the man.
The Beverly Hills Police Department said in a statement obtained by OTRC.com that on Monday, Jan. 13, at about 12:15 p.m., officers received a call about a suspected misdemeanor battery incident, without elaborating. West and Kardashian have not commented. No arrests were made and no charges were filed.
The statement said that the victim and "several witnesses" identified West as a suspect and that he "had left the location prior to officers' arrival."
West is already facing charges of misdemeanor battery and attempted grand theft, which stem from a scuffle with a member of the paparazzi in 2013. The hip hop singer pleaded not guilty in November. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail.
