NBC is off to Never Land!
The network announced on Jan. 19 that its next live musical venture will be "Peter Pan," set to air on NBC on Dec. 4, 2014. The news comes on the heels of the high ratings for "The Sound of Music Live!," which was watched by 18.47 million viewers.
"Peter Pan Live!" will be executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who produced "The Sound of Music Live!," starring Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer. No casting news for "Peter Pan Live!" has been announced as of press time.
"We're very pleased to be underway on 'Peter Pan' as our next live holiday musical for the whole family," said NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt at the NBC Television Critics Association.
"We were all delighted to see how 'The Sound of Music Live!' struck such a chord in December and brought nearly 19 million people to the live telecast," he continued. "In the hopes that lightening strikes twice, we think we've landed on another great Broadway musical that is a timeless classic for all audiences, young and old, who just never want to grow up."
The original Broadway production of "Peter Pan" opened in 1954, starring Tony Award-winners Mary Martin as Peter and Cyril Richard as Captain Hook. The story of "Peter Pan" is also the subject of the classic Walt Disney animated film by the same name.
