OTRC: Colin Jost named 'Saturday Night Live' 'Weekend Update' co-anchor

"Saturday Night Live" head writer Colin Jost has been named the new co-anchor for "Weekend Update."

"Big congrats to our head writer, @TheColinJost, who will join @cecilybecily at the @SNLUpdate desk as @sethmeyers' successor!! #SNL," a tweet from the official "Saturday Night Live" Twitter account on Thursday, Jan. 23 reads.

According to the "Weekend Update" Twitter account, which is unverified, but was mentioned by the verified "Saturday Night Live" Twitter account, Jost's first episode will take place on March 1.

Jost is set to take over for Seth Meyers, who is leaving "Saturday Night Live" after the Feb. 1 episode, according to Entertainment Weekly. Meyers will become the new host of "Late Night" as the show's current host, Jimmy Fallon, is taking over "The Tonight Show" on Feb. 17. Meyer's first "Late Night" show will air on Feb. 24.

Jost will join "Saturday Night Live" cast member Cecily Strong at the desk. Strong first joined Meyers on "Weekend Update" as a co-anchor in September 2013.

"Excited to share the Update desk with my pal @TheColinJost," she tweeted on Thursday. "I just hope his hair doesn't steal my hair's thunder."

Before Strong joined "Weekend Update," Meyers had been hosting the segment solo after co-anchor Amy Poehler departed the sketch comedy show in 2008.

Jost, a Harvard graduate who is reportedly dating Rashida Jones, joined "Saturday Night Live" as a writer in 2005 at the age of 22, Entertainment Weekly reports. He was named head writer of the program in 2012. He also wrote and stars in the upcoming film "Staten Island Summer" with Ashley Greene. The film does not currently have a release date.
