Azusa man swings bottle at bar owner, threatens security guard

AZUSA, Calif.

Officials say, Lunden Lewis, 29, also threatened a security guard with a knife after he attempted to escort him out.

Deputies from the San Dimas Sheriff's Station responded to El Palenque bar on the 17000 block of Gladstone Avenue around 10:15 p.m.

Witnesses said Lewis was allegedly intoxicated, causing a disturbance at the pool table. That's when he was asked by the bar owner to leave the bar. The owner escorted Lewis out of the establishment, but soon realized Lewis still had a beer bottle in his hand.

When the owner told Lewis he could not take the beer bottle outside, Lewis swung the beer bottle at the owner, grazing his right ear.

A security guard then pushed the suspect away from the bar owner. That's when Lewis brandished a knife at the security guard and owner.

Deputies were called and responded in time to see the suspect holding the knife, while the security guard detained him at gunpoint.

Lewis was taken into custody without incident and booked for assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.

No injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have been present during the incident or who has more information was urged to contact San Dimas detectives at (909) 450-2700.
