The men's and women's races will be held on February 13, 2016. The Los Angeles Marathon will take place the next day.
The February date was chosen to ensure optimal recovery time for the Olympic games, which take place in June in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
"With its iconic landmarks and decades of experience hosting world class sporting events, Los Angeles is the ideal location for America's elite marathoners to prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil," said Garcetti.
