Not even Jennifer Lawrence can resist the temptation of Doritos chips.
While filming "American Hustle," for which she recently received an Oscar nomination for her role, Lawrence was not shy about consuming Doritos and snacks while in full costume, so much so that the costume designer, Michael Wilkinson, was thankful he had backups.
"Jennifer Lawrence is a very ... let's say ... raw and intuitive young lady, and she's not against eating Doritos and snack food in her costume," Wilkinson said to Vanity Fair in a recent interview. "So we were glad that we had a couple [backups]."
The dress in question was the piece Lawrence's character, Rosalyn, wears while out with her husband Irving (played by Christian Bale) and confronts his mistress, Sydney (played by Amy Adams). The gown, a low-cut, white metallic jersey dress, was made purposely to appear cheap and stretchy, with fabric that reportedly cost $3.99 per yard.
"David [O. Russell] really had it set in his mind that she would be wearing this dress that she just poured herself into," Wilkinson said. "He wanted to see every single lump and bump. There had to be a sense of, 'Is she going to fall out of it?' It had this dangerous feeling to it, which matched her own dangerous mental landscape."
Lawrence recently took home the 2014 Golden Globe award for her role as Rosalyn in "American Hustle." The film, along with cast members Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Amy Adams, received Oscar nominations on Jan. 16.
