Encino fatal elderly shooting: $75K reward offered

ENCINO, LOS ANGELES

Harvey Cohen, 80, was shot in his home on the 5300 block of Andasol Avenue and later died at the hospital.

The Los Angeles City Council is offering $50,000 to anyone with information that leads to the identity, arrest and prosecution of those responsible. Cohen's family is offering another $25,000 on top of that.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 19, and investigators have not said whether the shooting was part of a home invasion.

Police say Cohen was shot in the kitchen and was found by his wife. Nearly six months have passed and there have been no arrests and no clues.

"Someone came into our home and murdered my 80-year-old defenseless husband. What kind of person would do such a thing?" Cohen's wife said at a news conference on Friday.

For family members, the waiting and wondering has not been easy. Not only do they want justice for Cohen, they also want reassurance that whoever is responsible is not still running loose on the streets.

If you have any information about this case, you're urged contact the Los Angeles Police Department at (877) LAPD-24-7.
