U.S. federal officials, accompanied by drug-sniffing dogs, searched Justin Bieber's private jet after it landed at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey on Friday, Jan. 31 after suspecting marijuana was on board and let him go after several hours.

ABC News quoted a source as saying the 19-year-old pop singer was on the aircraft while it was on the tarmac at the time and then taken to the customs terminal at the airport. Bieber, who arrived ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl XLVII game held in the state on Sunday, has been dealing with a slew of legal turmoil.

On Thursday, a preliminary report revealed that after a Jan. 23 DUI arrest in Florida, he tested positive for pot and the anti-anxiety drug Xanax. Bieber has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

His plane arrived just before 3 p.m. from Toronto when inspectors with Customs and Border Protection thought they smelled marijuana and began a search, the sources told ABC News. Pot is illegal in New York but decriminalized in California, where Bieber maintains a home, if used for medicinal purposes.

Several hours later, after interviewing Bieber, federal agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection decided to allow the singer to re-enter the United States. a source close to the airport told ABC News. They did not reveal if they found anything illegal on the plane.

The singer, a native of Canada, had late on Wednesday turned himself in to Toronto police and charged with assault, stemming from a December incident involving his and his entourage's limo driver in the city.

An online petition calling for Bieber to be deported. It was posted on the White House website and has been signed more than the 100,000 times, which means the U.S. administration must respond to it.
