"Harry Potter" fans - prepare to have your world completely shattered.
In a recent interview with the British magazine Wonderland, for which actress Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) served as a guest editor, "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling made shocking new revelations about Hermione and Ron Weasley's relationship in the popular book and film series.
Rowling, according to Britain's Sunday Times, told the magazine that she felt that Hermione should not have ended up with Ron, but with Harry instead. She insisted that her reasoning behind the Hermione/Ron relationship was made for personal reasons, not "credibility."
"I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment," Rowling said. "That's how it was conceived really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined, Hermione ended up with Ron."
"I know, I'm sorry," she continued. "I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I'm absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people's hearts by saying this? I hope not."
Watson, who starred as Hermione Granger throughout the entire "Harry Potter" film series, shared Rowling's sentiments about the two characters, saying she isn't sure Ron, in the long run, would have made Hermione happy.
"I think there are fans out there who know that too and who wonder whether Ron would have really been able to make her happy," Watson said.
