Officers who fired on wrong truck in Dorner manhunt will return to field

LOS ANGELES

An internal investigation found the shooting violated department policy. LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said in a department message to officers obtained by The Associated Press on Wednesday night that he has confidence in the officers and their abilities to do their jobs properly.

The women were delivering newspapers on Feb. 7, 2013, when LAPD officers guarding the Torrance home of a target named in an online manifesto blasted at least 100 rounds at their pickup truck.

In a rambling manifesto posted online, Dorner had threatened to wage unconventional warfare against LAPD officers and their families, prompting authorities to assign protection for everyone named in the manifesto.
