"How I Met Your Mother" fans - prepare to meet a new mother!
Actress Greta Gerwig, 30, has landed the lead role in the CBS pilot "How I Met Your Dad," a spinoff series to the popular sitcom "How I Met Your Mother." The new series is currently in-the-works and has not yet been picked up by the network, according to TVLine.com.
"How I Met Your Dad," which comes from the same show creators as "How I Met Your Mother," is said to focus on a character named Sally, played by Gerwig. As a 20-something living in New York City, Sally has not come to terms with the idea of growing up.
Upon realizing that she has nothing in common with her new husband, Sally embarks on a journey of self-discovery with the help of her friends and family. The spinoff premise is similar to "How I Met Your Mother," however it is unclear if any characters from the show would be featured in the new series.
The news of the spinoff comes as "How I Met Your Mother" is set to air its series finale episode on March 31 after a nine season run. The show began in September 2005 and stars the likes of Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan. The sitcom focused on the life of Ted Mosby, played by Radnor, and his group of friends as he details the ups and downs of his romantic life to his children.
Gerwig's film credits include the comedies "No Strings Attached," "Arthur" and "Frances Ha," the latter of which earned her a 2014 Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. Should "How I Met Your Dad" receive a pickup by CBS, Gerwig is said to also serve as a producer and writer for the series.
