"Modern Family" star Sarah Hyland left an event in Sydney, Australia early on Wednesday, Feb. 19, after she was inappropriately touched by a male fan.
The 23-year-old actress tweeted about the incident and wrote, "Sorry to all the fans outside the #qantas event that I didn't get to say hi to but I had to leave due to an inappropriate touch of a fan."
A 29-year-old man allegedly grabbed Hyland's chest at the event, which was sponsored by Qantas Airways, before the actress pushed him off, according to E! News. The New South Wales police confirmed to the entertainment news outlet that the man involved was arrested.
The Associated Press reports that the man was charged with assault with an act of indecency. The man could spend up to five years in prison for the crime. He was released on bail and will appear in court on March 14.
Hyland's boyfriend, actor Matt Prokop, also tweeted about the incident and wrote, "To the [expletive] who assaulted Sarah tonight I hope to God you don't see next week."
"All Sarah wanted to do tonight was say hi to the girls who were waiting outside one douche can ruin it for everyone. Goodnight," he continued in another tweet.
Hyland was in Austrailia with several other "Modern Family" cast members because the show is filming an episode there, according to the AP. The actress plays Haley Dunphy on the series. She also recently appeared in the film "Vampire Academy."
