OTRC: Erin Andrews named 'Dancing With The Stars' co-host (Confirmed, Poll)

FOX Sports reporter Erin Andrews has been confirmed as a new co-host of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars," replacing Brooke Burke-Charvet, who exited the series in what she called a "shocking pre-season elimination."

Her casting was reported over the weekend. She will join longtime co-host Tom Bergeron. The news was confirmed on ABC's "Good Morning America" show on Monday, Feb. 24.

Burke-Charvet, who had co-hosted "Dancing With The Stars" with Bergeron since season 10, had on Friday night tweeted that she would not return to the show in the upcoming 18th season, which premieres in March, saying: "Weird day ... Shocking pre-season elimination #DWTS ... ME." ABC confirmed her exit.

On Saturday, Burke-Charvet tweeted: "Thanks for all the love & support. I loved my time in the ballroom & I'll love my next chapter too. Change is positive. Love you guys!"

Season 18 of "Dancing With The Stars" premieres on March 17. The cast will be announced on "Good Morning America" on March 4.

Both Andrews, who worked as an ESPN reporter before joining FOX Sports in 2012, and Burke-Charvet are former contestants. Andrews placed third with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy during season 10 in 2010 (see PHOTOS) (and watch videos above) and Burke and Derek Hough won season 7 in 2008.

"Known for being a pioneer in sports broadcasting, Andrews' skills from the field are sure to be an asset in hosting a spirited dance competition," ABC said in a statement to OTRC.com, later adding: "She is one of the most-followed sports television personalities on Twitter, with over 2.1 million followers."

The casting change comes two weeks after ABC replaced longtime "Dancing With The Stars" music director, Harold Wheeler, and his band with former Emmys music director Ray Chew and a new group of musicians.
