March 1, 2014 12:00:00 AM PST
A F/A-18C fighter jet crashed on a U.S. Navy range training complex in Nevada on Saturday. The pilot's status has not been confirmed, Navy officials said.

The aircraft was conducting a training flight prior to the crash around 3 p.m., Navy officials said.

The crash happened about 70 miles east of Fallon, Navy officials said.

The aircraft was on loan to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center at Naval Air Station in Fallon, Nev. The Navy reported incorrectly on Saturday that the jet was a U.S. Navy Hornet.

A safety investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the crash.
