John Travolta made a complete mess of Idina Menzel's name during the Oscars on March 2, and the actor is finally speaking out about the now-hilarious incident.
Travolta mispronounced Menzel's name right before she was set to perform the Oscar-winning song "Let it Go" from Disney's "Frozen," calling her "Adele Dazeem." The incident has since gone viral, with the website Slate.com hosting a name generator where readers can "Travoltify" their own name.
In a statement to OTRC.com, Travolta expressed his initial agony over the flub. His statement reads as follows:
"I've been beating myself up all day. Then I thought ... what would Idina Menzel say? She'd say, 'Let it go, let it go!' Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy 'Frozen' took home two Oscars Sunday night!," Travolta said.
The "Adele Dazeem" misstep was a hot topic on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" the night after the Oscars, where Menzel was the show's musical guest.
"I feel so bad because you can tell as he's saying it he's 'oh, this is not gonna come out right, I'm just gonna say sounds,'" Fallon continued. "When Idina Menzel heard that, she was just like, 'Let it go, let it go, let it go."
