Police warn residents about series of Westside home burglaries

LOS ANGELES

Officer Christopher Ragsdale of the Los Angeles Police Department's West Los Angeles Division says the burglars typically knock on the door or ring the doorbell to see if anyone is home.

If there's no answer, then they break into the home through the side or rear of the house by smashing windows or glass doors. They usually target the master bedroom and bathroom areas to steal jewelry and small electronics.

According to investigators, the burglars also often target homes that are under construction or being remodeled so that they can steal tools and appliances.
