Rooney Mara has been cast as Tiger Lily in the upcoming film based on Peter Pan simply titled "Pan."
The 28-year-old actress' casting was reported by The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, March 12. Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio behind the film, had no comment to OTRC.com on reports of other actresses considered for the role.
In J.M. Barrie's play, "Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up" and his novel, "Peter and Wendy," Tiger Lily is a Native American princess who lives in Neverland and is saved by Peter Pan from Captain Hook.
The film, which is reportedly an origin story, will be directed by "Atonement" director Joe Wright. It was announced in January that Hugh Jackman was cast as the pirate Blackbeard, who will be a villain in the movie.
The entertainment news outlet also reported that "TRON: Legacy" actor Garrett Hedlund will play Captain Hook. The role of Peter Pan had not yet been cast, according to the report. "Pan" is set for release on July 17, 2015.
Mara, who is the younger sister of "House of Cards" actress Kate Mara, recently appeared in the film "Her," which earned Spike Jonze an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay earlier this month. She is also known for her role in the 2011 film "The Girls with the Dragon Tattoo" and "The Social Network."
