Is there a "Mean Girls" reunion in the works? Yes, according to the film's screenwriter Tina Fey.
Rumors of a "Mean Girls" reunion first started when the film's star, Lindsay Lohan, appeared on the "Tonight Show" on March 6 and talked about running into Fey backstage during Fallon's first "Tonight Show" on episode Feb. 17.
"It was interesting when I was backstage I saw Tina and she had mentioned maybe doing some sort of reunion," Lohan said. "She was like, 'I follow you on Instagram too.'"
Fey was referring to a photo Lohan posted on Instagram on February 13 with "Mean Girls" actors Rajiv Surendra, who played Kevin G. in the movie and Daniel Franzese, who played Damian.
"She said she was talking to Lorne [Michaels] about it," Lohan added. Michaels, who created and produces "Saturday Night Live," was a producer on "Mean Girls."
Fey told Access Hollywood recently about the encounter she had with Lohan and shared some more information.
"Yeah, I saw her at the first episode of the 'Tonight Show.' We did that bit with Jimmy, and I said to her, 'Oh, I think someone may call us about doing some kind of reunion because next month is the tenth anniversary of the movie.' And so really -- if everyone's around we might try to do some kind of like panel discussion," Fey said.
The writer and actress also shot down rumors of another sequel to the film. There was a sequel to the film called "Mean Girls 2" in 2011, but Fey didn't write the film and none of the orignal cast members appeared in it.
"But it's not like -- it's not another movie. At most it would be like a panel discussion with a plate of hot wings," she added.
"No it's definitely not a movie," Fey said. "It's just the anniversary is coming up so everybody get your pink shirts. It's been 10 years. You can tell when you look at me. It's been 10 years."
Fey is currently promoting her new film "Muppets Most Wanted" and she posed with Kermit and Miss Piggy at the Hollywood premiere on March 11 (see PHOTOS here). Check out the trailer for "Muppets Most Wanted" below.
