The 350-acre fire was 70 percent contained by about 10 p.m. Expressway 86 was closed in both directions between Avenue 66 and Avenue 81, according to the California Highway Patrol.
There are no reports of injuries, but power lines were down with one outbuilding destroyed.
The blaze erupted around 4:30 p.m. near Avenue 66 and Pierce Street, according to Cal Fire. About 148 firefighters are on scene and two air tankers are attacking the fire from the air.
