IKEA recalls children's bed canopies due to strangulation hazard

LOS ANGELES

The canopies are made out of mesh fabric and hang from the ceiling onto a crib or bed. The company says after receiving complaints from customers, it has identified the risk of potential harm from several models of canopies.

IKEA says it is not aware of any reports of permanent injury, but that the canopies can be pulled down and become entangled around infants' necks. The canopies were sold from August 1996 until this month for $10 to $30.

The company said consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bed canopies and return them to any IKEA store for a full refund. Consumers with additional questions can contact IKEA at (888) 966-4532.
