A former New Jersey public works inspector admits stealing $460,000 in quarters from his town's parking meter collection room.

Thomas Rica, 43, pleaded guilty this week to four counts of theft. Prosecutors are expected to recommend that he receive five years of probation and pay about $200,000 in restitution to Ridgewood, The Record reported.

Authorities initially arrested Rica for taking $500 from the town's parking meter collection room. Investigators later found that he actually stole $460,000 over the course of 25 months, according to the newspaper.

That's about 1.8 million quarters that he would put into his pockets and deposit in his bank account.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
