Thousand Oaks house fire causes explosions

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.

Authorities say the fire broke out shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday in the in the 1100 block of Foxglove Court. The flames started in the garage and spread to the rest of the house, even causing explosions, Ventura County fire officials said.

"When I opened the garage door it was dark and smoky," homeowner Fred Hall said.

Hall, 51, was working on the computer when the smoke alarm went off, he said. The fire started in the back of the house near the laundry area, which initially made Hall believe the fire may have started in the dryer.

He added that the explosions occurred "after the fire was well underway" and doesn't know what could have caused them.

Hall, his wife and three sons escaped unharmed.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire.
